ESA bids farewell to Pro Angler Mark de la Hey

ESA Pro Angler Mark de la Hey’s five year stint on the popular weekly ESA Saltwater show has come to an end. De la Hey, who played a central role in the rise in popularity of the locally produced  SuperSport fishing programme, has decided to pursue personal business interests after enjoying five successful seasons on South African screens.

Costa ESA’s [CEO], said that “unfortunately the time has come for Mark to move on as he has resigned from ESA after 5 years of entertaining and educational angling on ESA. Mark will still feature on our ESA Saltwater show from time to time as an honorary pro angler. Mark has stayed true to the ESA motto by continually educating the ESA audience and by innovating and reinventing styles of angling, whilst actively conserving our marine life. We will miss you, and look forward to having you stretch a line on the ESA Saltwater show”.

Costa also commented that “Mark has been an integral part of the ESA crew for 5 years, and he will always be a part of our ESA family. We would like to thank him for all the hard work he has put into growing the ESA brand to where it is today, and also wish him all the best in his new endeavors. We would also like to thank Mark's parents for supporting and raising a young man that is so talented and their continued support of the ESA brand.”

Mark, who lists his parents as role models, started angling when his father took him to the farm dam at the age of two, and caught his first king mackerel aged four. Cape Vidal, on the Northern coast of KwaZulu is his favourite fishing spot, as “there is nowhere like home”. Cape Vidal was the location of his biggest ever catch - a 500lb blue marlin, which was released.
When asked what advice he would give to an aspiring angler, Mark said “always learn from other anglers, no matter how experienced or inexperienced they are as everyone has a few good ideas. Also, when you are tired and ready to go home … give it another half hour!”

ESA fans can continue to catch their favourite angling show twice weekly on Supersport1. ESA Pro Anglers and Presenters are also on Twitter and Facebook, and the ESA World Group on Facebook is open to everyone. The ESA Saltwater show is broadcasted weekly on Thursdays between 19h30 and 20h30, while the ESA Bass show airs on Tuesdays between 19h00 and 19h30, both on Supersport1.
