Quintin Smith latest ESA member to win R10 000 Angler Makeover
Pretoria’s Quintin Smith is the latest Extreme Sports Angling member to win the monthly ESA Angler Makeover competition. Smith will appear on an upcoming ESA Saltwater episode, broadcast weekly on Thursdays between 19h30 and 20h30 on Supersport1, as well as walk away with over R10 000 worth of Kingfisher tackle.
Smith, who was born in Phalaborwa, will be accompanying ESA Pro Angler Ray de Bruyn on a fishing trip later next month (April), saying that “I am truly looking forward to the shoot, and spending time with the ESA guys. Maybe we’ll be lucky enough to get some good pulls also. Whatever happens, I am sure it will be better than being at work!”
Smith said that he has “tried his hand at both fresh and saltwater fishing over the years. Lately, due to location, I fish for Bass, Yellows and Trout mostly, but I fish at any and every occasion”. Smith’s favourite spots are “fishing for Yellows in the Vaal, Trout in Mpumalanga and targeting the Leeries and Grunter around Jeffrey’s Bay and St Francis”.
When asked about his preferred fishing partners, Smith said that “I really enjoy fishing with my dad, he first stuck a rod in my hand when I was knee high to a grasshopper and I would love to get to fish with him more often. My wife Leandri knew about my ‘addiction’ (fishing) for 8 years before we finally tied the knot in 2008. She is one of the most understanding woman ever and sits by the waterside come rain or shine. I just wish I could get her as far as picking up a fishing rod instead of a book!”
Smith, who has already met ESA’s Ray at a ESA Show at Kyalami, said that “Ray’s enthusiasm and love of fishing is evident and at Kyalami he was the same in person and he had time for each fan. Hopefully all goes to plan and Ray and I can stretch a line in a few weeks time!”
